It is a small treasure! Located in Oplontis (the modern Torre Annunziata), the Villa of Poppea is a gorgeous ancient Roman Villa, once probably owned by Sabina Poppea, the second wife of the Emperor Nero of Rome.
Completely covered with meters of ashes during the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in the 79 A.D, the Villa was finally excavated in 1964 and then listed by the Unesco as a World Heritage site.
The Villa offers the visitors an overview of the lifestyle of a patrician family of the Roman Empire, it is surrounded by a beautiful garden and its large rooms are covered with spectacular and very colorful frescoes made by important artists of the time who surely knew how to use perspective in their paintings.
The villa was also provided with private thermal baths, beautiful bedrooms with a see view, a huge swimming pool and dining rooms facing the gardens!
The tour of the Villa of Poppea (Oplontis) will last no more then 1 hour and a half, we suggest you to combine this tour with a visit to the beautiful town of Sorrento or Positano.
