For its beautiful position in the bay of Naples, the mild weather and the gorgeous vegetation, the town of Herculaneum was in the past the favorite location of wealthy Roman Aristocrats.
Completely buried under about 60 feet of volcanic material during the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in the 79 A.D, Herculaneum is now one of the best preserved archaeological site of the World.
Walking in the ruins you will visit beautiful Roman Houses full of sculptures, paintings, works of fine art, colorful mosaics, (the house of Neptune and Amphitrite, the house of the Deers, the house of the Black hall, the house of Relief of Telephus).
In same of the houses of Herculaneum, for example in the House of The Tramezzo di legno, you can even see pieces of furniture, carbonized during the eruption of Mount Vesuvius (doors, shelves, tables).
You will certainly stop in the Thermal Bath (the ancient SPA), still covered with original mosaics.
By the exit of the ruins, by the ancient marina you will see 300 skeletons, the bodies of people who tried to escape during the terrible eruption of the Vesuvius in the 79 A.D
Herculaneum is not as big as Pompeii, in a 2 hours Tour, you will be able to see most of the ancient town and certainly all the highlights.

You can decide to go to Herculaneum on your own and meet your Tour Guide in Herculaneum. In this case the easiest way is to take the CIRCUMVESUVIANA train. It is a local train that takes from Sorrento or Naples, 35 minutes only. You have to get off the train at HERCULANEUM.
